Cloudy Island
By: Ida Chen
The little bear cub sat there staring at the sky. He saw a cloud, and it looked liked the island he was sitting on. I want to go to that island he thought. So, he did. First, he grabbed a ladder. Then, he climbed up to the cloud. At first everything was misty white, then things began to clear up, he realized he was on an island! Millions of birds surrounded him, that made the little bear feel welcome. After the great welcome cheers settled, two enormous elephants guided the cub to a cave lit up by candles and warmed up by his mom. After the elephants left, the little bear snuggled and slept in the arms of his mother. The next morning the mom and the cub went to the seashore, a island shaped like a sun floated over. The mom motioned for the cub to stay, then she jumped on the boat and sailed away. The cub sat motionless on the shore staring at the ocean. At first, he cocked his head. Then, he walked away. The bear already knew how to get honey, hunt for meat, and fish, he ran to the forest and jumped into the stream. He grabed the fish one by one, and when he thought it was enough he returned to the cave. When he arrived, he saw his mom was not there, he shrieked then he remembered his mom left him alone, lost, and sad on the island in the sky. Suddenly, he remembered his ladder. He ran to search for it. He looked on mountains, prairies, and at the edge of the island he found it. He took it and pulled it up. Then he wrecked it, and took the sticks to the shore. He made it into a sun shaped island, and when he was finished, he floated away in search of his mother. Two weeks past and the bear was stronger and wiser, but he still couldn't find his mother!! One day the bear was in the middle of the sea, he saw land. Great! thought the little bear. He rowed as fast as he could to land. Finally, he got there. The bear was strong enough to build his own cave. When he finished, he went to collect food, he got honey. When he was finished he strolled away to the stream. Streams were the bear's favorite places, because they were good places to sit and think. However this time the bear came here because he saw a cave here earlier. When he saw the cave, he pranced towards it. It was lit up by candles, and warmed up by his mom. The bear, which wasn't a cub anymore snuggled and slept in the arms of his mother.

The Hamburger

One Thursday afternoon Jack and Emily were writing down their homework. Emily and Jack were brother and sister but they never walked home together, Jack always took the shortcut home so he always got there first. When they got home they, finished their homework, ate dinner, and got ready for bed. Jack was the first one home, but Emily was the first one at school. The end of the day bell rang and Jack saw Emily in the hall and pulled her into a corner. He practically dragged her down the hall! That's when they entered a door that only the principal and the teachers knew about. Jack wanted to check it out, so they went in. They had to go through cobwebs and darkness before they came to another door. Emily opened the door that lead to some stars. Emily and Jack walked down a long path and soon they came to a throne. Emily said, "Hello, anybody here?" No one answered, then they heard a voice. It was a squeaky voice! Emily looked down and there sitting on the throne was a, HAMBURGER!!! Emily and Jack bursted out laughing."What" said the hamburger? "Never saw a talking hamburger before?" "No" They both said. "Hey you seem to know your way around, could you help us find our way out" “Sure" said the hamburger and off they went. This time instead of walking their separate ways home they actually walked home together. They ate dinner and went to bed. And they never told anyone about their little secret or what was behind the door.

One day Will and Josh were in the park somewhere in a galaxy far far away. Suddenly a green glowing bed appeared and it brought them to all sorts of great places. Such as the time of the Dinosaurs, and ancient Egypt. Then in a flash of an eye they were on the Titanic!!!!! “Aaaaaaahhhhhhh”, screamed Josh. Then Will said, “Home” to see if that was the magic word that might send them back to their own houses. But they did not go home. So for eight days Josh was sea sick. “Blaah” went Josh! Then it hit them, tomorrow was the day that the titanic sank!!! Of course Josh's sea sickness got worse. “Blaaaah”, Josh went again. The next day the sea was calm, but that night it happened. DING DING DING went the emergency bell. “Start loading the lifeboats”, Captain Smith yelled. “Let's try one more time”, Will yelled to Josh! “HOME”, HE YELLED AND THEY WERE HOME!!!!!!!!!! They only felt safe when they were in the oak tree next to their house, sitting on their favorite branches.

Puzzle Problems

In a land far, far away, some puzzle pieces were talking. "You don't go here!" shouted Lynn. "I go here!" "You do not!" shouted Brynn " Neither of you go here." said a voice. "Please help us!" cried Brynn. "Who are you." Lynn demanded angrily ." I'm the good witch of wisdom." she replied. "But, please call me Vivian." "Fine" muttered Lynn. "Vivian! Lynn and I can't find our spots! please can you help us!" Brynn asked. "Why do you need to find your spots?" Vivian asked gently. "We need to find our spots for the school play! I thought you knew that already!" Lynn shouted as if it she meant for all of Puzzle Mania could hear. "Shhhhh....... hissed Brynn, she's trying to help us." "And you're not helping!" Lynn hissed back. "Quiet both of you!" said Vivian. "Do you want my help or not!" said Vivian raising her voice a bit. "Yes I do!" shouted Brynn. "Fine" Lynn mumbled. The next day Vivian was sitting with Lynn gently talking to her. "I'm not trying to be mean." she sobbed." Then why do you yell at your sister so much?" Vivian asked. "I guess it just comes out and I don't have any chance to stop it." she said while looking at her feet. "What are you talking about?" Brynn asked half asleep. "It's six o'clock." "Six!" Vivian cried. "We've been talking for over an hour!" "Go get some sleep Lynn then we'll talk about it some more." said Vivian. "Rrrringggg! "It's the school play!" Brynn shouted happily. That night the girls had butterflies in their stomachs. "I'm so nervous!" said Lynn. "Me too Brynn said back. Then it was time to dance. They danced beautifully, and no more puzzle problems.
