The Math in Focus Concept
- Students will learn the WHY behind the math concept before learning the HOW
- Allows teachers to teach to mastery.
- Pre-tests are given to assess if each child is ready for the chapter.
- Re-tests are given for those that earn below a 74% on Post-tests.
Homework
- We will not have homework every night. I will often wait to assign homework until most of the class is comfortable with the material.
- Homework should be a review from class and not too challenging. If it is I would like to know.
- If a child is absent he/she can attempt to finish the homework at home, this way he/she will not be far behind when they return. However, this is not mandatory.
- If a child forgets his/her homework, he/she will stay in from recess to finish it.
Extra Help
- I am usually available during recess to work one-on-one with a student or a small group of students. All they need to do is ask.
- I am also available to meet before school by appointment.
- I will often pull students who need help on a given topic during our homeroom block as well.
